Hon. John Baird

John BairdThe Honourable John Baird, who is currently the Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and for the Government of Canada, is a role model to the Reverend Huy Dang.

Mr. Baird is also the Member of Parliament for the federal riding of Ottawa West-Nepean and is a former Member of Provincial Parliament in Ontario (1995 to 2005) in the ridings of Nepean and Nepean-Carleton.

Throughout Mr. Baird's provincial career, he seemed to have voted with an open mind, according to his blog, located at www.johnbaird.com/blog.asp. Here are some good examples of excerpts from his blog:
The Legislature sat today and we debated a bill to end mandatory retirement. here is one example where I do support the government. Generally speaking their bill is a good one and I plan on voting for it!
Here is another good example:
I am often asked if I ever support anything the provincial government announces.

Today I did when the McGuinty government announced CHEO would be a centre for Ontario's Newborn Screening Program.

I have been pushing for this for more than a year when I introduced a Private Members Bill on the issue. In September we had public hearings into the bill. I also called on CHEO to be the host site of the program.
Obviously, Mr. Baird cares about his constituents and shows it, based on the way he voted at the provincial level, despite being in opposition.

In 2006, Mr. Baird was successfully elected as a Member of Parliament in the riding of Ottawa West-Nepean, and has done an excellent job representing his constituents. He has since been re-elected in 2008, and has continued to perform some fine work, especially during question period and during committee hearings.

To see Mr. Baird in action during question period, here's an example; and here's an example of him during a committee hearing.
